Saskia Snikkenburg grew up in The Netherlands and studied English Literature and Communications in Amsterdam. After a few successful years in the fast lane of advertising, Saskia and her boyfriend bought a farm in a little village close to Cape Town, South Africa at the end of 1999.

Here Saskia set up her own company The Global Picture from where she worked for international commercial production companies and traveled the world in a business suit. But living on the tip of Africa in a cultural mix (also referred to as the Rainbow Country by Nelson Mandela) and surrounded by nature, started to change Saskia’s perspective on life in many ways.

As a sports teacher Saskia’s father passed on the active gene and it resulted in a huge passion for running, cycling and overall interest in all health aspects of life.

In 2000 she became a certified Stott Pilates instructor and her interest in the benefits of precise physical movement was born. And her fascination for this field grew when she started doing Iyengar Yoga with one of Cape Town’s best yoga teachers and when a friend started the first Bikram Yoga studio in Cape Town, Saskia was taking both yoga classes more and more often.

Realising the transformational impact of Bikram Yoga on her own physical, mental and spiritual health, Saskia entered the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles in 2004. She discovered that the depth of yoga is endless and has made it her passion to share this with as many people as possible.

A Kids Yoga training followed and after turning her back to corporate life entirely she devoted her life to teaching Bikram Yoga,  giving private yoga lessons and teaching Kids Yoga to children from 3 to 11 years old. She also volunteered teaching yoga a group of teenagers who where part of a Youth Life Skills programme near one of Cape Town’s many townships.

In the beginning of 2008 Saskia decided to pack up her life entirely and moved back to Europe. Angelica and Saskia met at Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 2004 and from fall 2008 Saskia is teaching at BikramYoga Södermalm in Stockholm.
